Shaw Solar completed the very first Community Solar Power Garden in La Plata County back in 2015, a 200 kilowatt (kW) garden in Ignacio. Since then we have also installed a second, a 50 kW garden on the roof of the Boys and Girls Club in Durango.

Solar power gardens are large solar arrays from which community members can buy or lease shares. The energy produced by their share is then attributed to the electric meter at their home or business through virtual net metering. In this way, individuals can reap the environmental and financial benefits of solar power, regardless of whether they rent, have poor solar access or roof space, or don’t have the upfront capital to invest in a system of their own.
