Solar Installer Apprentice:

The Solar PV installer is a full-time role, responsible for supporting all aspects of Solar PV project installations, including technical installation, customer service, material delivery, and maintaining all safety protocols. We encourage you to apply if you have experience in many of the requirements below, with a willingness and capacity to grow in others! 

Required Competencies:

  • Work Ethic: Reliably arrive to work on time and prepared for a 10-hour shift to support crew, Crew Lead, and customers.

  • Spatial Awareness: Ability to notice physical surroundings and potential hazards. You must be aware of personal physical limitations while working ergonomically on rooftops to keep yourself and crew safe.

  • Attention to Detail & Quality Control: Diligently check work on each part of the installation to confirm that all steps are accurate and complete before moving on. Willingness to communicate with Crew Lead and crew to ask questions and learn if unsure about work quality.

  • Interpersonal Skills & Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with a crew, homeowners, and others while maintaining a calm attitude that is receptive to feedback and represents the company in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Communication: Ability to accurately follow verbal or written directions from crew members, Project Managers, and others involved in the project and communicate the status of a particular project or task to complete it effectively, efficiently, and safely.

  • Desire to Learn: Demonstrates curiosity about the details of a project, general PV Solar installation best practices, and how to grow as a more skilled apprentice.

  • Decision-Making & Critical Thinking: Ability to weigh the benefits and costs of an operational decision to complete installation tasks safely and in a manner that progresses the project.

  • Tool Knowledge: Ability to identify and comfortably use basic hand and power tools.

  • Understanding of Mathematical Concepts: Ability to do basic arithmetic calculations to install to specification and adapt to site-specific modifications.

  • Technical Reading Comprehension (Preferred): Ability to read site plans and electrical diagrams to install Solar PV to NEC (National Electric Code) and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) requirements.

Expectations of the Job:

  • Travel: Must have a reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to stand, walk, sit, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employees must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and climb ladders to access roofs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Work Environment: The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. Work environment changes from day to day: installation on roofs of all pitches. The daily temperature varies from hot to cold depending on the season.

  • Safety: It is required to complete safety training and follow health and safety procedures to ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times.

  • Customer Service: We expect all Shaw Solar team members to act as professional representatives of the company during their work hours, whether it is driving between job sites, working on-site, or interacting with customers.

Compensation and Benefits: 

  • The position is full time, based out of our Durango, CO shop.

  • Apprenticeship starts on day one and counts toward your electrical license

  • Health Insurance available after 180 days of employment
